Fourth Quarter Rally Propels Vanier To The Win
Photos and Story by Robert Thomas
For the majority of the game between the Vanier Vikings junior boys basketball team and the Lumsden Devils junior boys it was the Devils that held the edge.
By all appearances it looked like the Devils were set to win the see saw battle by a razor’s edge.
Then suddenly with five minutes left in the fourth quarter the Vikings took a two point lead.
A sudden steal of the ball looked like a four point Viking lead but it never happened as the Devils recovered but failed to make a basket.
The Vikings would capitalize with four minutes left in the game.
With just over a minute to go the Vikings led by six points and Lumsden called a timeout.
At the Vanier bench the players were told they should be able to control 40 seconds of the last minute if they used the clock properly.
Lumsden would fail to score and Vanier did give them an eight point lead.
The final score was Vanier 73 and Lumsden 65.
