Warriors’ Sticks About as Potent as Blue Jays’ Bats

The week that was was many things for the Moose Jaw Warriors and their supporters. They’re practically a new team.

First was the news that veteran Czech leader Martin Rysavy would return.

On account of Rysavy is 20 years old he is classified as an “overager”. Teams are only allowed three 20 year old “overagers” on the roster, that meant one of the remaining 20 year olds needed to go.

Unfortunately the team said goodbye to Eric Alarie, who’d been a long time star with the team.

Rysavy and Alarie post similar offensive numbers, but Rysavy is more physical and had the benefit of some NHL training camps in the off-season.

Alarie was traded to Seattle in exchange for a pair of draft picks, which will definitely help in the future.

But the wheeling and dealing didn’t end there.

The Warriors also swapped out Ben Riche, a young prospect and a handful of future draft selections, in exchange for Kalem Parker, who is property of the Minnesota Wild and Brayden Schuurman, both of which were popular Victoria Royals.

All told, it looked as if the Warriors had made an executive decision, a decision that signalled their intent to pursue a Championship.

Even fans of our heated rivals can see it.

This fresh new Warriors roster, which is still without Captain Denton Mateychuk, got their first look together on Friday night, at the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge.

Problem is, the Lethbridge Hurricanes are a pretty good team too.

They are 3-1 to start the season. That’s a better record than the Warriors have.

And they scored the first couple goals right away too, silencing the Warriors plan for a hot start and putting them in the unenviable position of having to come from behind if they want to win.

Lethbridge’s first goal was scored by Tyson Zimmer and the second by Chase Pauls. Lethbridge was enacting some painful payback for last year’s playoff exit.

The second period was similar to the first.

The Warriors sticks were about as potent as the Toronto Blue Jays’ bats.

Lethbridge soundly out-played them. The only difference in this frame was that Jackson Unger was stellar in net, stopping everything the Hurricanes fired at him.

In period three Lethbridge got right back to work, adding a third goal, this time from Logan McCutcheon.

Then a fourth later in the frame from Brayden Edwards.

Final Score: Lethbridge 4, Moose Jaw 0

ZERRRRRRRROOOO!!! Zilch. Nothing. Nada. Invisible offense.

Maybe it’s got something to do with a feeling out process but this new Warriors squad had no answer at all for the Hurricanes.

They looked flat, uninspired, unexceptional and boring. They couldn’t put pucks on the net and didn’t really come anywhere even close to presenting a real threat at any point in the game.

It’s as if the game was over before it even started.

Here’s hoping the bugs are out of the system by tomorrow night, when they head to Medicine Hat for a date with the Tigers.
