The Moose Jaw Warriors are looking ahead.

They’ve lost some games this season I’m sure they wish they could have back.

One of those was a real bad 11-2 clunker, at the hands of the Brandon Wheat Kings, who they were playing again on Saturday Jan 14th.

But they’d just come off a hard fought victory over the very tough Portland Winterhawks and they would have, undoubtedly, wanted to carry that monentum over into future games.

The first period definitely wasn’t one of the club’s most exciting periods so far.

They were mostly neutralized by Brandon’s defence and failed to score.

Brandon scored one though.

It was Dawson “Don’t Call Me David” Paternak, decked out in the fanciest Wheat Kings jersey you’re likely to ever see, who slipped one past Connor Ungar.

The Jerseys they wore were the winning Jerseys in a #YourTeamYourJersey jersey design contest.

Moose Jaw turned things around in Period 2, torching the Wheaties for four goals.

Ryder Korczak sniped the equalizer on a Power Play then Ben “Rocket” Riche gave them the lead a couple minutes after, with a no-look shot.

That goal was Riche’s fifth of the season.

Almost immediately after that Eric Alarie scored his 13th, jamming a loose puck past Brandon’s goalie.

Late in the frame, Brayden Yager added another one.

He received a cross ice pass from Jagger Firkus and ripped it over the goalies glove.

The Wheat Kings didn’t wear those jerseys for nothing and refused to go down without a fight.

Nolan Flamand scored early for them in the third, then, while short-handed Zakhar Polshakov made it one goal game with three minutes remaining.

They were relentless in the final frame but couldn’t get that final goal they needed.

Connor Ungar turned away 16 shots in the period and the Warriors held on to a 4-3 victory over a tough division rival.

Jagger Firkus and Atley Calvert both had a pair of assists and were named the top 2 Stars.

Nate Danielson, from Brandon, was the Third Star.

The next game is Tuesday, in Moose Jaw, against Saskatoon.
