It was Morty the Moose’s birthday on Friday night and your Moose Jaw Warriors were hosting the Portland Winterhawks for the party.
After a bit of back-and-forth hockey it was the Hawks who split the deadlock about 8 minutes into the first, on a snipe by James Stefan.
Moose Jaw returned the favour shortly after. After killing off the game’s first penalty the tribe broke out on a rush. Bobzilla Baco rifled a shot at the opposition goaltender that bounced into open ice where a salivating Cosmo Wilson hammered it home, dropping to one knee for extra leverage.

Both goalies had faced plenty of action but the scoreboard remained locked at 1’s heading into the second period.
The second period consisted mostly of Portland peppering Connor Ungar with shots but, true to form, Ungar saved them all.

The Warriors scored one though. On a Power Play, with just 11 seconds left Eric Alarie potted a rebound off a Martin Rysavy shot. It was a tight match, but the Warriors were up heading to the third.
Cosmo Wilson may have been the hero early on when he scored his first goal but he turned into the zero when he got called for Tripping and Jack O’Brien scored on the Power Play to level the score out.
With only two minutes remaining on the clock Eric Alarie did it again. Receiving the pass from Logan Dowhaniuk, Alarie zipped the puck past the Winterhawks goalie. The Hangar erupted with cheering, applause and celebration.

Then, with the net empty, Ryder Korczak slung one from behind his own blue line, the distance of the rink, into the Hawks goal, to finish the deal. Despite being out shot badly, the Warriors win again. 4-2.
Connor Ungar, Eric Alarie and Portland’s Luca Cagnoni were the game’s 3 Stars.
The Warriors won’t be partying too hard though, they will be in Brandon on Saturday night for a date the Wheat Kings.
