Female Flyers Split Weekend Games

It was a break even weekend for the Milestone Flyers 18A female squad in Saskatchewan Female Hockey League (SFHL) action over the weekend.

The Flyers won at home on Friday evening against Weyburn and lost a come from behind heartbreaker on the road Saturday evening in Carlyle.

Friday - Weyburn 1 Milestone 4

It was a revitalized Flyers on Friday evening as they easily dropped South East TS & M Gold Wings in their first game of the season versus Weyburn.

The game could have easily turned into a major scoring rout as the Flyers outshot the Gold Wings 58 - 14 but the superb goaltending of Amy Swayze kept her team in contention.

Swayze, who was called up from the 15A league, performed brilliantly pulling off some major saves in what could best be described as a turkey shoot for the Flyers.

The Flyers opened the scoring in the First Period at the 12:40 mark when former Moose Jaw Mavericks product Sidney Ellingson scored assisted by Ember DuSomme and Calley Calaghan.

The Flyers extended their lead at the 15:50 mark of the Second Period on a goal by McKenna Perras assisted by Cam Perras and Nikita Halyk.

Weyburn got onto the scoreboard at 12:57 on a goal by Delamey Knoll assisted by Lata Brady and Kaya Erb.

The Third Period saw Halyk score the insurance marker at the 18:06 assisted by McKenna Perras.

Halyk would round out the scoring unassisted at the 15:59 mark.

Saturday - Milestone 3 Carlyle 4

Saturday evening saw the Flyers on the road to face off against the hometown Carlyle Wildcats.

At the end of the tightly contested game the Wildcats were able to overcome the Flyers to claim the win.

The scoring was opened in the First Petiod by the Wildcat's Caydence Chapman at the 11:09 mark assisted by Alexis Roppel.

The Second Period saw the Wildcats take a commanding 3 - 0 lead only to see it vapourize in less than 30 seconds.

The Wilcats’ Jasmine Wilms scored at 18:18 mark assisted by Jaycee Jervais.

The Wildcats would score their third goal, a power play goal, at the 16:28 mark by Eva Bear assisted by Roppel.

With less than a minute left in the Period the Flyers would explode to tie up the contest.

DuSomme scored with 00:38 assisted by Perras.

DuSomme would go on to score an unassisted goal at the 00:21 second mark.

DuSomme scored her natural hat trick marker an unassisted power play goal at the 00:16 mark to tie the game up.

The teams entered the Third Period tied 3 - 3.

The Wildcats would end up the eventual winners with Bear netting the winner at 00:15.

After the weekend the Flyers remain in second place in the SFHL South Division ahead of the Balcarres Barracudas by two points and trailing the South leading Prairie Storm Thunder by nine points.

The Flyers next action is a home game at 8:30 pm January 29th versus the East Central Fillies.
