Mavericks Lose Game Two In Double Overtime
It was a bit of deja vu except for the ending as the Moose Jaw Bantam A Mavericks lost in double overtime 4 - 3 to the Parkland Fire Sunday afternoon in Melville in game two of the Southern Division Final in Saskatchewan Women’s Hockey League action.
The Mavericks took the lead in the game when Jadyn Palaschuk scored at 16:15 of the first period assisted by Eowyn Stokes and Taylor Luciak.
The Mavericks then faced a Fire alarm as the Moose Jaw squad found themselves outscored in the second period.
At 13:53 of the second period the Fire tied the game when Alyssa Rasmuson put the puck behind Moose Jaw goaltender Brooke Archer assisted by Kadeance Melnyk.
The combined Melville-Yorkton squad then took the lead at 2:36 of the second period when Cadeance Campeau scored assisted by Callie Metzger and Tyra Keshane.
Parkland then added their third goal of the game when with less than a minute remaining in the second period Metzger scored assisted by Rasmuson and Emma Silvernagle.
Despite being in a bit of a hole the Mavericks rallied in the third period.
The comeback started at 7:45 of the third period when Sidney Ellingson scored assisted by Nikita Halyk.
With less than a minute of play in the game Stokes would put the puck behind Parkland’s net minder Elliana McKay with 32.4 seconds remaining assisted by Halyk and Ember DuSomme.
The comeback would not turn into fantasy though as in the second period of sudden death overtime Rasmuson scored her second goal of the game assisted by Metzger at 14:33.
With their first loss of the season the best of three series is now tied. The final game of the series will take place at the Red Knight Arena (15 Wing Moose Jaw) March 17th at 1:30 pm.
The game is free to attend and the Mavericks encourage Moose Javians to come out and cheer them on in what looks set up to be another great playoff game.
As an FYI the Red Knight Arena has a portable defibrillator on site.
