Midget A Mavericks Silence Prairie Storm's Thunder
By Robert Thomas
In the second game of the season the Midget A Mavericks skated into Balgonie Friday evening and came back to Moose Jaw with a 3 - 0 shutout win.
Maverick's captain Kaelyn Logan opened the scoring - with what proved to be the winner - at the 6:11 mark of the first period assisted by Brooklyn Nimegeers.
The first period saw the Mavericks record six of their 10 minutes of penalties with two penalties - one for high sticking and one for a hooking call - assessed against Eowyn Stokes. Forward Sidney Ellingson would account for the other minor penalty on a hooking call.
Prairie Storm Thunder received two penalties in the first period - one for hooking and another for a high stick.
The second period saw the Mavericks skate through the period penalty free as they notched two more goals.
The Mavericks second goal came at the 11:04 mark as Ellingson scored assisted by Nimegeers.
Then at the 2:04 mark Kami Schumack scored assisted by Ashleigh Breitkreuz and Makayla Anderson.
Balgonie wracked up three minor penalties with potentially some frustration showing as Tasia Sandy was assessed a boarding minor at the 1:29 minute mark left in the period.
The final period would be scoreless with the Mavericks picking up two penalties - Taylor Luciak with a high stick at 18:27 (offset by a coincidental high sticking minor to Balgonie's Ren Hubick at 18:27) and Courtney Botterill for tripping at 1:09.
Despite finishing off the game on the penalty kill the Mavericks managed to sustain the shutout and keep the Prairie Storm Thunder scoreless.
The shutout goes to Schay Campaugh who made her Midget A debut.
The Mavericks are now 2 - 0 on the season outscoring their opponents 12 - 1 so far this season
