Last week four local wrestlers from the Moose Jaw Kinsmen Wrestling Club competed in the 2018 Saskatchewan Games, which took place in North Battlefield from Feb 19th - the 25th. The four wrestlers joined five others, and two coaches, from the Swift Current Titans Wrestling Club to make up team Southwest.

The goal as they ventured into North Battleford? To bring home some hardware; and that they did.

Kyle Yamniuk, from AE Peacock, was dominant as he went undefeated in the 60kg division; only giving up a mere 3 points in 6 matches. Kyle topped the podium, winning the Gold medal.

Connor Rowsell, also a student from AE Peacock, found success in the 95kg division and made his way to the podium, winning the Silver medal.

Hannah Watt, of Central Collegiate, battled her way through the 67-75kg division, taking the Silver medal as well.

Justin Wiens,  from AE Peacock, had a rough start but bounced back, dominating his last two matches in the 54kg division and propelling his team third place for team duels, winning the Bronze medal.

Also topping the podium for Team Southwest was Swift Current's Luke Nelson who won Gold in the 67kg division and Elijah Harden in the 80kg division.

In a successful week, Team Southwest brought home 3 individual gold medals, two individual silver medals and the bronze medal for team duels.

Team Southwest was made up of athletes from the Moose Jaw Kinsmen Wrestling Club and the Swift Current Titans Wrestling Club.
