Editorial - Let The Kids Play
By Robert Thomas - Opinion
Although our editorials are usually critical of the City this week’s editorial is one full of kudos.
This past week the City announced the resumption of the FREE Friday Night Youth Activity Centre at Prince Arthur School.
The program runs Friday evening and is open to all youth 13 - 17 years of age.
This publication has been a strong supporter of this program after area parents pointed out it was positive to have something for teenagers to do on a Friday evening.
We were told that their children were taking advantage of the program and how it was nice to have something in the neighbourhood for the kids to do and run off some excess energy at.
The program is supervised and the teens who shop up can participate in a number of pick up activities.
The COVID - 19 pandemic restrictions temporarily shelved the program and it is nice to see its return.
In a survey done in the past the majority of participants were from the nearby area and most walked to the school.
For many it might be safe to assume that it is much too far for many to walk to youth programs on Maun Street or the Kinsmen Sportsplex - especially with cooler winter temperatures on their way.
Here is hoping that the youth of Moose Jaw take advantage of this Friday evening opportunity.
