Rhino's Ramblings: Beef at the Cultural Centre

With one theatrical performance ended, there is still another playing out at the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre. The Phantom of what was once used for the Opera is somewhere in the shadows, as the board of the Cultural Centre released a statement.

And yes, it was released over two weeks after the Cultural Centre’s AGM but NO there is NOTHING nefarious with that. There is a simple explanation; their lawyer was busy preparing for a trial and asked for time to respond.

Which is the proper thing to do.

Now, with that said, there are those who wish nothing was reported of the actual events happening down there. Whether people like it or not, there is a major political dynamic going on just across the street from City Hall and has been for sometime now. Despite what might be said, the Cultural Centre itself and the original Capital Theatre, at its very core, and since its conception, is a political creature. It was part of the downtown revitalization project which included the Temple Gardens Mineral Spa, the Casino, the Tunnels of Moose Jaw, the Multiplex and the Cultural Centre itself.

In three years we have seen three general managers work there. It’s also a story most media in town want absolutely nothing to do with, including the now defunct paper edition of the Moose Jaw Times-Herald. At the time of 2017s controversial manager dismissal, the Times-Herald begged off on covering it because there was nothing positive in the story. The dynamics of two community groups involved was a no-winner.

Here’s hoping they solve their differences; and soon. But with letters now reportedly sent to the City about what just happened at the AGM, I wonder what will actually happen in the next scene.
