Council Looking For New Police Commissioner
With the resignation of Moose Jaw Board of Police Commissioners member Nicole Swanson - due to her accepting a new job - Council is looking for a new citizen member to join the Board of Police Commissioners.
The position can be time consuming at times but also is rewarding. The main responsibilities as a commissioner of the Board of Police Commissioners is to set the budget and policies in accordance with applicable Acts.
The City of Moose Jaw is looking for an individual with the following qualifications:
Qualifications:
• Understanding of the distinction between the strategic and policy setting role of the Board and the operational responsibilities of the Chief.
• Capability to give leadership to the development of the Board and the Police Service pursuant to The Police Act, 1990.
• Commitment to the vision, mission, values and strategic goals of the Board.
• Ability to work as a member of a team.
• Respect for and tolerance of the views of others.
• Recognition of the time commitment and the willingness to devote the time and energy necessary to perform the role of a board member.
• Knowledge of and appreciation for First Nations and Metis family systems and community dynamics.
The function of the Moose Jaw Board of Police Commissioners is to provide policing service, to maintain a reasonable standard of law enforcement, and to provide adequate and reasonable facilities as required.
