Temperatures are expected to be near or below -30C as an Arctic air mass is predicted to move into the area Thursday morning and persist over the weekend.
Combined with winds of 15 to 25 km/h, this will result in wind chill values ranging from -40°C to -50°C at times over the coming days.
Extreme cold puts everybody exposed to it at risk.
Exposed skin freezes within minutes and the risk of frostbite and hypothermia are at an elevated risk.
