Snowbird Pilot Charged With Sexual Assault

Charges laid for incident that allegedly occurred in Barrie, Ontario
A member of the 431 Squadron - commonly known as the Snowbirds - has been charged with sexual assault.
According to a release on June 17, 2023, the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service (CFNIS) charged Major Hurlbut, Steven, J. from 431 Squadron.
Major Hurlbut faces the following charge:
One count (1) Sexual Assault pursuant to section 271 of the Criminal Code

On 14 June 2023, based on the circumstances of the case and applying a victim centric approach, the CFNIS assumed investigative responsibility into an allegation of sexual misconduct that was alleged to have occurred in Barrie, Ontario the release stated.
The Snowbirds performed at the Barrie Air Show on June 10 and June 11.
Although investigated by CFNIS (military police) the matter will now proceed through the civilian justice system.
An earlier release stated the individual who the allegations has been made against will be reassigned to non-operational duties.
It is unknown what Major Hurlbut’s status with the military will be now that he has been formally charged.
The release stated no further information will be available.
Major Hurlbut is presumed incident until proven guilty in a court of law.
