Curling Seeking Increased Subsidy In 2024
It takes a lot of money to operate a curling rink the size of Moose Jaw’s.
In the proposed 2024 operating budget for the Moose Jaw Curling Centre it adds up to $424,321 in annual expenses.
An increase of $28,537 or seven percent from the $395,784 budgeted in 2023.
On the income side the Moose Jaw Curling Centre is budgeted in 2024 to bring in $142,000 an increase of one percent higher than the $140,500 in the 2023 budget.
THE EVENTS CENTRE BUDGET
The difference between the 2024 budgeted expenses of $424,321 minus the budgeted income of $142,000 leaving the City to subsidize curling by $282,321 in 2024.
MJ Independent checked and this is the largest subsidy to curling we could find in the province.
Many other cities do not directly subsidize curling but forgive property taxes on their facilities.
It needs to be noted the Moose Jaw Curling Centre also does not pay property taxes.
