SHA Asks Parents To Not Buy Specialized Formula If Your Child Does Not Need It

There is a shortage of specialized infant formula for babies with allergies in Canada and the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is asking people whose infants do not require the specialized formula to please do not buy it.

The SHA is hoping to help mitigate the impact of the shortage by making the request.

“If your baby does not need specialized infant formula, please do not buy it,” the SHA release states.

At the present time there is NO SHORTAGE of regular infant formula in Canada, a statement from SHA reads.

The shortage of specialized infant formula is the result of Abbott Nutrition’s U.S.-based formula manufacturing plant and is affecting all of Canada.

“While a family may not be able to find their usual or preferred brand of formula, regular cow milk-based commercial infant formula are not included in this shortage,” the SHA said.

At the present time the federal government is working to help alleviate the shortage.
