Man Who Cut Deal To Remain Free In Brownlee Found In Edmonton
A drug dealer who was suppose to remain indoors at a friend’s house in the hamlet of Brownlee has been found in Edmonton.
As a result of an ongoing investigation by Saskatchewan RCMP's Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team (WEST), on November 3, 2022, Kurt Miller was arrested in Edmonton, AB.
Miller plead guilty to a bevy of charges relating to an investigation that took place when a home was searched 27 kilometers north of Biggar as part of a 2020 investigation.
It is alleged that on May 15, 2020 in the RM of Glenside, SK, the then 39 year old Miller along with the then 49 year old Mitch Hutchinson were in possession of a large quantity of illicit drugs as well as prohibited and restricted weapons.
After pleading guilty in Moose Jaw Provincial Court Miller was able to convince the judge to release him under strict conditions until he appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court for sentencing on January 25, 2021.
Miller at the time was on remand at the Regina Correctional Centre.
As part of the conditions Miller, who would be staying with a friend who lived in Brownlee, paid $7,500 in bail plus was to remain inside a residence for 24 hours a day unless authorized (he is allowed to go outside December 25th), not change his residence, no alcohol, cannabis or other drugs unless prescribed by a physician, no contact with his fellow accused, no firearms, no ammunition and no knives unless they are for eating and no cellphones or other devices other than one cellphone.
Miller was staying at a friend’s home in the hamlet of Brownlee.
The agreement was reached with Miller in what is considered a period of Christmas amnesty where many people are released early or under conditions to allow them to be with family and friends over the holidays.
Once he was in Brownlee, Miller did not attend court but subsequently vanished.
When the news was released about the conditions Miller was allowed not to be in jail after pleading guilty to serious offences there was outrage in local social media and concerns raised by Brownlee area residents about Miller being released in the community.
