Christmas In October Lights Up The Downtown Starting Thursday
If you see the Christmas lights on in the Downtown this coming Thursday its not a mistake by the City but all part of a promotion by the Downtown Moose Jaw Association to kick off the Christmas shopping season.
Running from this Thursday October 20th to October 23rd the Downtown merchants are holding their annual Christmas in October promotion as the start of the all important Christmas shopping season.
“Christmas in Moose Jaw always draws shoppers from southern Saskatchewan and beyond,” Mayor Clive Tolley said in a statement.
“We ask Moose Javians to put their money where their lives are and discover the quality and variety of shopping options right here at home,” the Mayor said.
But before you say the event is disrespectful to Moose Jaw's military veterans don't worry the City says they have the OK to run the event after consultation with the local branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.
At the end of the event the Christmas lights will be turned off until after Remembrance Day on November 11th.
It is thought as disrespectful, by a large sector of Canadians, to turn on Christmas lights until after Remembrance Day as it takes away from the commemoration of soldiers who served in wars.
