Moose Jaw Firm Fined Under COVID - 19 Mandates
PLEASE NOTE- The story has been updated after the Province issued a correction and an apology.
They might be known for selling the sweet stuff but a recent summary fine for not wearing masks likely left a sour taste in their mouths.
Sweet Treats Candy Company located at 14 River Street East in Moose Jaw received a summary ticket fine of $2,800 for allegedly failure to mask - which does not abide by the current public health orders.
Sweet Treats was among a number of businesses fined for allegedly breaching the present health mandates between December 27, 2021 and January 3, 2022 which initially included a business and two churches.
The Province has since corrected the release as follows:
“UPDATE: In this January 11 release, two churches and one business were included as having received fines: Kindersley Church in Kindersley, Holy Family Catholic Church in Regina, and Central Avenue Hair Studio in Swift Current.
Those summary offense tickets were issued to individuals at or near those locations and not to employees or the people responsible for the churches and business themselves.
They should not have been included in the release.
The process by which fines will be reported has been improved to ensure that such public reports are not made in error.
The Ministry of Health apologizes to those churches and Central Avenue Hair Studio for the error.
The following businesses were charged:
SKBuilt Gym, Regina received a fine for $2,800 for failure to mask and a $14,000 fine for failure to check for proof of vaccination or a negative test
Whole Leaf Healing Tree, Regina received a fine for $2,800 for failure to mask
Kingdom Sound Academy, Swift Current received a fine for $2,800 for failure to mask.
A number of individuals were additionally fined for breaching COVID - 19 mandates but their names will not be released due to privacy laws.
