There was an apparent jumping of the rails by a CN train hauling empty grain hoppers along the CN spur line heading west through the city.

According to sources at the scene at about 8:20 pm a CN train had a partial derailment causing the train to stop from just behind the Laurier Apartments to a few hundred meters from the CN rail crossing on Thatcher Drive west where the two engines were located.

Although full details have not been confirmed - as there is no media liaison available at this late hour - the train was able to move forward after the rail was visually inspected tp allow the re-opening of railway crossing on 9th Avenue NW just south of the Lynbrook Golf Course.

It does not appear that any cars flipped as a result of the incident. Nor does it appear there were any injuries.

Following moving the train firefighters left the scene and were back at the fire station around 9 pm.

We will provide further details as they become available.
