Public Health Asks Attendees At A PA Rally To Go Into Immediate Isolation

If you were part of the group of individuals who participated in the April 17th Freedom Rally in Prince Albert the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is advising you to immediately self-isolate and call the 811 Health Line to be tested as you have been in attendance at an event where it was determined either a person or persons attended who had COVID - 19.

According to the Prince Albert Daily Herald about 100 people attended the protest in front of the Court of Queen’s Bench court house in PA. In a photo in that publication numerous people can be seen in close proximity to one another.

Following the event an attendee tested positive for COVID - 19 and the determination was made by contact tracers that all attendees must now go into immediate isolation. Failure to follow the call to go into self isolation could lead to prosecution.

Tickets for individuals who violate public health orders in Saskatchewan are $2,800.

This weekend there are two major Freedom Rallies planned in Saskatoon and Maple Creek with the mayors of both communities asking people not to attend and stay away from the events as a means to help stop the spread of COVID - 19. The Saskatoon event has billed itself as an event for children to have fun with such things as a fish pond, balloon animals and science experiments.

It is important to note the following:

  • COVID-19 is transmitted through coughing and sneezing (droplet transmission), and by touching surfaces with the virus on it and then touching your mouth, nose or eyes before washing your hands.

  • Memorize and recognize the symptoms: fever, cough, headache, muscle and/or joint aches and pains, sore throat, chills, runny nose, nasal congestion, conjunctivitis, dizziness, fatigue, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite (difficulty feeding for children), loss of sense of taste or smell, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing. Stay home if you have symptoms and monitor yourself.

  • Get tested: Learn more about testing and regularly take the online self-assessment at Saskatchewan.ca/COVID19. Call HealthLine 811 or your physician for a referral or visit your local drive-thru testing site.

  • Care for yourself and others: Anyone at any age can contract COVID-19. Be kind to each other and to health-care workers.

  • Download the COVID-19 Alert APP: The Health Canada COVID Alert app is available to all Saskatchewan residents at no cost in the Apple and Google Play app store. The app is another tool available to help prevent the transmission of COVID-19 by letting people know of possible exposures without sharing any personal information. For more information, visit the COVID-19 Apps webpage.
