School Division Updates Parents On COVID - 19 Status
It has been one week since the Prairie South School Division made the controversial decision to return to in-person learning after moving to distance or on-line learning on March 29th.
Prairie South School Division had closed schools in both Moose Jaw and Caronport to prevent the further spread of COVID -19 caused by Variants of Concern (VOC) on March 29th until the end of the Easter Break on April 12th.
In a letter to parents from director education Tony Baldwin and board chair Robert Bachmann parents are told the division had one confirmed COVID - 19 case at a school since re-opening with an entire Grade Three class and staff member being placed in 14 day isolation as a result.
The letter also requests parents to ensure they are following all public health recommendations in terms of contact with others.
The letter states the Division met with public health officials on April 14th and as a result “tightened mask protocols” with some staff wearing additional PPE in certain circumstances.
Additionally parents are told the school division is not responsible for providing additional learning supports for parents who voluntarily chose not to send their children back to school on April 12th due to their concerns about COVID - 19 alone.
