Trio Of Road Works Greet You On A Mild Monday Morning

For anyone heading to work today there is a trio of road hazards on major thoroughfares you might want to avoid and be aware of.

Main Street And Fairford Avenue

In the center northbound lane, part way in the intersection, there is a developing sinkhole close to City Hall.

The City put out warning markers on Sunday and work has yet to commence on repairs.

It is unknown what the actual repair work will entail but a brief visual inspection on Sunday evening pointed to the pavement sinking indicating a potential sinkhole. There is no release as to the extent of the hole developing.

Main Street North

Drivers should also be aware there is on-going work adjacent Main Street North. The single lane traffic is from Civic Centre Drive and Thatcher Drive.

The City has closed the right-hand northbound lane to vehicle traffic and since it is a work zone the speed limit has been reduced to 30 km/hr.

Follow the signs and pay attention for workers.

The road is closed to facilitate work on the East Feeder Line and is expected to re-open on March 12th.

9th Avenue NW and Ominica Street

A water main break has the two southbound and the west-side northbound lanes of 9th Avenue NW closed through March 10th.

Drivers who might be tempted to use the one open northbound lane to head south are reminded that they may be ticketed for doing so and should detour around the construction area.

While the repairs are being completed, only one north-bound lane will be open and both south-bound lanes will remain closed on 9th Avenue N.W.

The restriction is expected to be in place through March 10th.

Please use caution and obey posted signage for the safety of all.
