City Re-Routing Traffic And Buses Tomorrow To Help Facilitate Sinkhole Repair
A sinkhole in the middle of the intersection at the corner of Fairford and Main we told you about earlier today in a story has the City now taking some temporary measures to facilitate repairs.
On Monday evening the City has erected barricades around the sinkhole allowing traffic on Main Street but commencing tomorrow traffic will not be detoured around the area and Moose Jaw Transit’s will temporarily move its Downtown terminal.
The sinkhole developed because of conditions created by a previous water main break.
Starting tomorrow, March 9th, south bound traffic will be detoured. Southbound vehicular traffic will be detoured at Ominica St. and northbound traffic will be detoured at High St. The alleyways on the respective 0 blocks of Fairford Street East and Fairford Street West will also be barricaded.
Pedestrian access will continue.
Additionally Moose Jaw Transit will temporarily re-route its buses and move its Downtown main terminal - transfer point.
The transfer point for all Transit routes will be temporarily relocated to 1st Avenue NW between River Street W and High Street W in front of Mosaic Place. Buses outbound to Route 1 – Athabasca East, Route 2 – Athabasca West / Thatcher, and Route 3 – Sunningdale will board on the East side of the street, and the bus outbound to Route 4 – Westmount will board on the West side of the street.
Where you can access the bus will also change tomorrow to allow for the repair to take place.
Effective Tuesday March 9th 2021, all Moose Jaw Transit stops on Main Street North between Fairford Street and Athabasca Street will be temporarily out of service due to sinkhole repair.
Additional temporary bus stops will be added at the Northwest and the Northeast corners of 1st Avenue NW and Ominica Street W to provide additional access to Main Street North.
The repair is expected to take one day and it is anticipated traffic restrictions and Moose Jaw Transit operations will return to normal on May 10th.
