Use Caution It Is Dangerously Cold Outside

If you were thinking about heading out of doors over the next couple of days you might want to reconsider or dress properly as a dangerous blast of Winter has descended onto the city and Environment Canada has issued an Extreme Cold Warning for the region.

An arctic high pressure has pushed down extremely cold air into the Moose Jaw region and beyond causing temperatures to plunge below -30C without the wind chill, with the wind chill the temperatures are below -40C.

The Extremely Cold Warning is in effect for:

  • City of Moose Jaw

  • R.M. of Baildon including Briercrest

If you were hoping for a rapid warmup from the extremely cold temperatures you are out of luck as the weather office is predicting the extremely cold temperatures to hang around until later next week.

Environment Canada also advises the following:

These bitterly cold values will remain in the prairies into next week.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.

Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant.

If it's too cold for you to stay outside, it's too cold for your pet to stay outside.
