SGI Mandates Vaccination/Negative Test For Road Tests
It is a move many might see as a means to encourage younger people to become vaccinated but effective October 25th anyone requiring an SGI road test must be fully vaccinated or provide a recent COVID - 19 negative test.
In a news release headlined “Want to get your licence? Better get your COVID-19 shot” SGI announced the policy.
SGI sites better safety for its staff and customers as the reason for the move. SGI driver examiners need to be in a vehicle - except a motorcycle - and therefore in close quarters during the driving exam.
“Providing proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test is now standard practice to access many businesses, services, and venues,” Penny McCune, Chief Operating Officer for the Auto Fund said in a statement. “This will improve safety for our customers and employees.”
SGI based their position on recently announced Saskatchewan Health Authority figures.
Those figures show younger people “over-represented among those who are unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated,” the release stated.
SGI figures show half of those taking the road test were age 19 or under, and 38 per cent were between the ages of 20 and 30.
In accordance with the Province's direction all SGI employees are required to be fully vaccinated or provide a recent negative COVID - 19 test.
