Poll Shows Saskatchewan Residents Most Optimistic About End To Pandemic
If attitudes make a difference when it comes to the recovery to normal from the the COVID - 19 pandemic then Saskatchewan is near the top in that category. That’s the finding of a poll conducted by the Angus Reid Institute (ARI).
In the poll ARI found that 23 percent of the poll’s Saskatchewan respondents believes that life will return to normal (back to the way it was before the pandemic) this Spring or Summer - the highest percentage in the country. At the same time 22 percent of respondents from Saskatchewan believe that life will not return to the way it was pre-pandemic.
About a return to normal in the Fall of 2021 or later 55 percent of Saskatchewan respondents saw it as the most likely outcome. Nation-wide the majority of respondents, 63 percent, do not see things returning back to normal until the Fall of 2021 or later.
Surprisingly the hard hit Quebec had the most optimistic outlook about life returning to normal (pre-pandemic) with only 17 percent of respondents answering that life would never go back to the way it was.
When things do return to normal the main things the majority of Saskatchewan respondents, 54 percent, said they want to do is to simply do regular things in the community. This followed by travelling outside of the country with 41 percent of respondents looking forward to it. And the third most popular thing respondents were looking forward to post pandemic was travelling around Canada at 32 percent.
In what could be good news to the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Moose Jaw Warriors is that Saskatchewan respondents had the highest number of people who wanted to attend sporting events at 19 percent.
When it came to going to concerts it might be bad news for Mosaic Place as Saskatchewan respondents saw that as the least exciting activity with only nine percent excited about it.
The same applied to movie theatres with Saskatchewan respondents showing the least excitement with only seven percent excited about it.
The poll was conducted from December 8 – 11, 2020 among a representative randomized sample of 1,603 Canadian adults who are members of Angus Reid Forum. For comparison purposes only, a probability sample of this size would carry a margin of error of +/- 2.4 percentage points, 19 times out of 20. The Angus Reid Forum are individuals who have agreed to participate in polls conducted by ARI.
