Doug Blanc First Nominated Candidate For Council
It is a question being asked all over the City and that is “Where are all of the candidates running for Council?”
Well on Thursday Moose Jaw received an answer as the first candidate to file their nomination papers took the plunge to seek a seat on Council.
Doug Blanc, who unsuccessfully ran in the 2018 byelection to replace Councillor Don Mitchell who resigned to care for his ailing wife Martha Tracey, is once again seeking election as a councillor.
A longtime Moose Jaw resident Blanc brings with him 28 years of experience working for the provincial government as well as being an elected official with the Saskatchewan Government Employees Union (SGEU).
During his time with the SGEU and afterwards he has worked on both sides of the table - first with the union and later on the government side.
In his on-line profile on the City of Moose Jaw’s web-site Blanc lists the strengths he developed in his professional career and brings to Council if he should win.
“My career provided me the ability to deal with and develop budgets. I have dealt with time constraints along with a large variety of issues and people. I have experience with negotiations, arbitrations and resolutions. I can deal with complexed issues while leaving personal bias out to find the best resolution for all involved,” his candidate profile reads.
After failing to be elected in the 2018 byelection Blanc has remained active in the community by attending Council meetings, various board meetings as well as putting his name forward to serve on City boards.
He also believes the City needs to view its residents as customers and have better communications with them.
“ There needs to be better communication and planning of projects to allow easier access throughout the city. The issues and struggles of today need to be addressed effectively while looking at future needs of the city. I am committed to working hard as your new city council member.”
MJ Independent plans to once again sit down with Doug over coffee and discuss why he is once again running for Council, the issues he wants to tackle if elected and what has changed since the byelection run.
For now here is the coffee interview we had with Doug in 2018.
