Initially RCMP re-routed traffic down a grid road which was two miles (3.2 kilometers) south then two miles (3.2 kilometers) east and then 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) north.

Following extinguishing the initial fire a second accident occured on the Trans-Canada approximately 3.6 kilometers east of the inital accident scene - just east of the initial detour back on to the Trans Canada Highway.

Although full accident details have not been released the second accident involved at least a semi truck and trailer.

The accident was responded to by the Pense Fire Department who were on their way home from the initial accident.

The Pense Fire Department were outside of their trucks on the highway on standby at approximately 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm.

Multiple RCMP vehicles were on scene of the second accident.

After the second accident the detour for eastbound traffic was then extended a further 3.2 kilometres (2 miles) to the east with detoured traffic re-joining the Trans-Canada Highway on the western edge of Belle Plaine. A single RCMP officer detoured traffic south at the initial accident scene.
