Despite The Heat Phase Five Scorching Along

It was scorching hot this past week and the hot news from Phase Five of the Cast Iron Water Main Replacement Program is two major roadways are set to see their final paving this coming week.

As usual all businesses remain open during the construction.

High Street West - 0 - 200 Block

High Street West, which suffered delays from its original schedule due to additional work being added, is set to be re-opened in its entirety after final paving of the intersection of High St W and Main Street North.

The video below shows the intersection during the noon hour on Friday.

All that remains to be paved is a small section of the 0 block and the adjacent High Street and Main St N intersection.

This work is in addition to the original Phase Five project. It was added after a previously unknown connection was discovered between the High Street cast iron water mains and the 2nd Ave NW cast iron water main necessitating the work to be undertaken.

The big news in this part of Phase Five is work has now moved north of High St W and the intersection of Fairford St W is closed for an unspecified amount of time.

The closure effectively removes two major east - west thoroughfares and direct traffic from the Downtown core to 5th Avenue NW.

The City has not provided any dates or timelines for the work to be completed and re-opened to traffic.

Fairford Street East

Work continued on Fairford St E on the 0 - 200 Blocks.

Traffic is blocked between 6th Ave NE and 9th Ave NE including the 7th Avenue and 8th Avenue NE intersections.

There was some additional work as two residents decided late to install new sewer and water service lines (service lines are the pipes from main line to the house) necessitating crews to dig up a small portion of already packed trench work.

Getting the work done now is a cost savings to the homeowner of thousands of dollars compared if it is done later necessitating digging up the newly paved street.

No date of when this portion of work is set to be completed has been released by the City.
