Moose Jaw Hometown Fair Parade Thursday June 20th at 7 pm on Main Street North

If the weather forecast is as predicted Thursday evening should be warm and sunny as the 2024 edition of Moose Jaw Hometown Fair Parade kicks of the Fair.

To be held on its traditional route down Main Street North the parade will see a wide variety of participants.

The parade marshalling grounds are once again located on the Town and Country Mall.

It’s an evening of arrive early bring a light jacket, your lawn chair, something to drink and perhaps slap on some sun screen.

“It’s something that has been a tradition for many, many years as long as the Fair has been going on there has been some kind of a parade,” said Judy Wilson board chair of the Moose Jaw Exhibition Company.

The theme of this year’s parade is Notorious Summer with parade participants asked to simply interpret it as they see it.

“We want people to use their imagination and show what a Notorious Summer means to them,” said George Fowler general manager of the Moose Jaw Exhibition Company.

Asked if the theme was an Al Capone one Fowler said “it could be if you wanted to dress up like the gangsters but everyone has a different interpretation what a notorious summer is.”

The number of participants entered in the parade was not finalized at publication time but many were interested and signing up.

Also this year’s parade - if everything works out as planned - may have some of the Fair’s performers in it.

Look for BMX and motocross motorcycles.

The organizers ask that motorists obey all of the security that will be working at the barricades. Private and trained security has been hired to help ensure safety at the parade.

Also for safety reasons organizers ask children and adults do not enter the area where the floats and bands are.

Parade organizers are also asking that motorists please use 1st Avenue NW if possible as traditionally a large number of floats return to the parade marshalling grounds using 1st Avenue NE.

The parade route on Main Street North will be a temporary No Parking zone a few hours before and until after the parade.
