Musical Revue All About Fellowship Between City And Base

By Robert Thomas

Local talent, quality entertainment, fellowship, meet the people who make up the Canadian Armed Forces locally, plus a refreshment all for $7 has to be the best deal out there.

At 1 pm on March 19 at the Timothy Eaton Centre - 510 Main Street North - eight local acts will perform. The event is sponsored by Friends of the Forces Fellowship.

Event chair Lyle Johnson said the event is not only a musical revue, featuring a wide variety of local performers, but also the opportunity for fellowship with others in community as well as those from 15 Wing Moose Jaw.

“It’s so we know the people at the Base are people and try to welcome them into our community,” Johnson said.

He said the organization was charging a minimal $7 charge to cover costs of the event

“We don’t want to make a fortune. We just want to recover the costs. There are things for rental and things like that.”

If there are any excess funds they will go to help military families and veterans who may be running into some difficulties.

Johnson points to the diverse selection of talent - from the Forces as well as the community - appearing as part of the event.

“We have really good talent. People from the Base and local people. People you would know like Bonnie and the Jets and Kelly Sapergia who are (locally) very well known entertainers,” he said, adding plus other not so well known but highly talented performers.

Captain Rich MacDougall, a Snowbirds support pilot in his day job, is described by Johnson as “really talented.”

MacDougall appeared on a televised national talent search about a decade ago.

Johnson said the event is hoping to draw a wider audience and is featuring such diverse acts from Grade Twelve student Joaquin Tyrie's guitar and vocals as well as Harold St Pierre's Metis jigging.

“We try to appeal to everybody if we can,” Johnson said.

“Usually it’s an older crowd but we always try to bring out some acts that will make people want to see them.”

Asked about having Harold St Pierre's Metis jigging Johnson said its highly important to include everyone. In the community. But at the same time St Pierre has great talent which the audience will appreciate.

Each act will perform for about 20 minutes with the entertainment program lasting until between 4 pm and 4:30 pm.

Opportunity To Meet Military Personnel

Although the performances will be the feature of the event it will also be an opportunity for both the general public as well as military personnel from 15 Wing Moose Jaw and the local reserve unit the Saskatchewan Dragoons to meet one another.

“The military people will be around. You get to interact with them which is a nice thing,” Johnson said.

He said the event was not just fellowship but also showing people from 15 Wing Moose Jaw what Moose Jaw has to offer.
