Ever Popular "Punch Buggies" Tour The Streets Of Moose Jaw
Although it is not a term that has been in popular use for decades “Punch Buggies” - the VW Beetle - and everything about vintage Volkswagens was on display through Moose Jaw on Saturday.
“We’re a group of people who are just passionate about old VWs,” Dustin Swanson, a member of Prairie Volks Car Club, told MJ Independent.
The car club motored into Moose Jaw for the group’s first annual June Bug Rally.
The VW Beetle (nickednamed a Bug) was a very popular car that reached its heyday in North America during the 1960’s and 1970’s.
Another Volkswagen popular in the time of Free Love and Peace was the VW Van. The VW Van was highly popular in the Hippie culture of the day.
Both vehicles are considered classics because of their popularity at that time.
While in Moose Jaw the members of the club held a rally where they toured the city stopping or driving by Moose Jaw tourist stops.
After the rally participants headed up to the Western Development Museum where they had a show for members and anyone who wanted to check out and ask questions about what are considered classic vehicles.
As an added note vintage Volkswagens are highly collectible vehicles.
As part of the rally and show a handmade trophy - made out of VW parts - was awarded to Wayne and Sheena Johnson of Moose Jaw.
