Winterfest Set To Go This Saturday

It may have been a bit colder the last couple of days but with the weekend approaching the climbing and more seasonable temperatures predicted for Saturday is just what one local event is looking for.

This Saturday, February 15th, from 11 am to 3 pm the Wakamow Valley Authority (WVA) is putting on their annual Winterfest celebration.

Winterfest is held annually as part of Family Day celebrations.

Designed to be a family oriented event Winterfest has a whole repertoire of free event everyone can take part in.

“It’s a family day event. Something to get out in the winter to enjoy yourself and get outdoors as a whole family,” Lasha Cable, the WVA's administrator and events coordinator said.

To be held at the skating oval and at the Kiwanis Speed Skating Oval there will be plenty of free events for all members of the family.

The ever popular Prairie Percherons will once again be providing free horse drawn wagon rides open for all. Donations will be taken from those who choose to contribute with all funds going to assist further development of the disc golf course.

There will be axe throwing put on by Little Chicago Entertainment where you can test your axe throwing skills and see if you can stick an axe into a target.

A signature event will make its return this year as contestants will vie for bragging rights who can toss 2019's Christmas tree the furthest. The natural trees were collected by the City to turn into mulch. The event goes all day and will be held beside the walking path by the Speed Skating Oval.

For those who want to there will be public skating on the Oval.

The Moose Jaw River Watershed Authority will be holding an on-going information session in the outdoor roofed eating area of the Kiwanis Pavilion. The group will provide information about animals and surviving in a winter habitat through the event.

For those who so choose there will be on-going crafts inside the Pavilion.

Additionally there will be s canteen selling coffee, hot chocolate and chili on a bun at the Pavilion.

Despite the weather improving temperature-wise Crabbe said the WVA is hoping for plenty of snow before the event because they will have snowshoes available to loan.
