SCRAPS Launches 2021 Calendar

A popular local annual tradition is taking on a unique look this year in the wake of the COVID - 19 pandemic. The SCRAPS 2021 calendar will feature the rescuers in the city but in a unique way.

Entitled “Rescue Me” the calendar take a full circle from rescue and giving back.

“It has been a really challenging year with COVID and it brings a little bit of recognition to the people on the front line,” Anne Marciszyn with SCRAPS said,

The calendar usually consists of pet photos from within the community but this year it focuses on the pets owned by people who are on the front line in Moose Jaw.

“Animals provide a lot of support to people and those on the front line during the pandemic,” Marciszyn said adding it was a relationship where people help animals and in turn animals give a lot of enjoyment and help to people.

The calendar features a more human side to many of the essential and frontline workers in the community.

It needs to be noted pet ownership has increased during the COVID - 19 pandemic.

The 12 months will feature a different essential service during the pandemic and run from a truck deriver, a minister, paramedic, health care, senior care and emergency crews will be featured.

“Even though humans are in really big need it does not take away from the importance of animals,” she said.

The unique thing about this year’s calendar is that the people it features are all people who have either fostered or adopted a cat from SCRAPS and the joy the cats has brought them. The calendar portrays the rescue of a cat but at the same time the joy the cat gives back to a rescuer in the stress of the pandemic.

The calendar this year has been professionally photographed by Lisa Bryce who specializes in animal photography and Gail from Wolfen Photography.

Calendars are available for $20 from None Lives Boutique in the Town and Country Mall, vet clinics as well as other locations throughout the city.

All proceeds go to SCRAPS mission to assist the local feral feline population.
