SCRAPS Releases 2020 Calendar

It was a night of pizza. It was a night of salad. It was a night of music. And was even a night of magic for the kids as SCRAPS Moose Jaw held their Scaredy Cat fundraiser.

Held Tuesday evening at Pizza Hut the 7th annual event filled the restaurant as the local feral cat assistance program spread the word about its capture, release, spay and neuter program as well as raising much needed funds to assist the many feral felines which call the notorious city home.

As the music played by Bonnie and the Jets, with former local Member of Parliament Rodney LaPorte providing lead vocals, Magic By Chris wandered the restaurant mystifying the kids with his magical performance. View video above.

The highlight of the night however was SCRAPS releasing its second annual calendar. The highly popular calendar - which features local pets - required two printings last to satisfy demand.

SCRAPS board member Susan Neal said the 2020 calendar is a labour of love with local pet owners submitting their photos of their beloved animal friends to be in the calendar.

“The calendar features community pets and people submitted photos of their pets to appear in the calendar,” Neal said.

This year over 70 people submitted pictures of their beloved pets.

“It's mostly cats and dogs but we also have a ferret, rabbit and a guinea pig,” she said.

Last year the calendar featured a horse but this year the calendar is neigh with equine photos but maybe in the 2021 edition, Neal said adding the group has yet to see avian ir reptilian pet photos submitted but would welcome those out pet photos as well.

The calendars glossy pages are made up of a mixture of 50 percent pet owners submitting from last year and 50 percent new people which Neal said was great for the effort.

“There are a lot of people from last year submitting new photos for the calendar but there are also new families who want to participate.”

With a press run of 600 SCRAPS hopes to meet demand as last year they ran out and had to have an additional press run.

“This year we printed 600 so hopefully we have enough.”

The key to the SCRAPS calendar is its uniqueness she said, adding “it is a fun calendar unlike any other in town.”

As part of the calendar there are small and tasteful ads from 24 local businesses as well as the back cover features 24 SCRAPS kittens which are available for adoption.

A highlight of the calendar is the month of September - Pet Remembrance Month - where many of the beloved pets featured have passed away.

Neal said a big selling point of the calendar is that it makes a great gift especially for people who already seem to have everything.

“If people have lots of stuff a calendar makes a great gift because it shows your pet and everybody else's pet as well.”
