5 Pizzas You Gotta Try in Moose Jaw

MJ Independent

We asked a whole bunch of people around the city about their favourite local pizza joints and I don't think anybody that lives here is gonna be surprised by the result. It was undeniable. Two brands excelled far above any others. The people of Moose Jaw really like Greek pizzas; or pizza made by Greek people, as we will soon learn. Most people asked chose either Rodo's or the Mad Greek as their favourite pie in the city and many even opined for the days of Nick's Place as well, as the pizza there, many claimed, was as good as any other pizza around.

The verdict is in: prairie folk like thick, cheesy pizza, with large slices of meat and fresh vegetables. But it seems, they also like some other interesting pizzas aside from that.

I hope you're hungry.

Here goes. Let's bite into the 5 Pizzas You Gotta Try in Moose Jaw

Rodo's Pizza

It's only fair we put Rodo's first on the list. They had the most votes. But Mad Greek was really close behind.

Rodo's Pizza is so good it even led to one Yelp reviewer calling it the pizza he has been looking for his "entire Foodie existence" and another to say it was "easily the best pizza that's ever graced (his) palette".

The pizza is thick, with lots of stringy cheese and large slices of meat and they brown the crust just perfectly.

Rodo's Pizza, Like the Mad Greek's and what used to be Nick's Place's is definitely a cut above any other pizza the city has to offer. It costs a little more than other pizza joints, but it's definitely something quite different when compared to those same pizza joints, as well. A large at Rodo's goes a lot further too. With Rodo's there's always leftovers. And you can even order 8" Pizza's that are a perfect sized meal for one.

The Mad Greek

In regards to the Mad Greek's famously thick pizza, John Iatridis, owner and chef at the restaurant says that, along with his late father, they crafted the recipe.

"One thing almost all Greeks take pride in" he added "is making sure you are well fed."
He admits that they don’t go easy on the meat or the cheese "but sometimes customers ask us for lighter toppings and we definitely accommodate them".

Although Greek restaurants around here serve monstrous Pizza, John informed us that that isn't indicative of traditional Greek pizza.

"In Greece, pizza is actually made thin. It is eaten more as an appetizer or a light meal as opposed to a big meal."

Family Pizza - # 36. The Chicken Bacon Ranch

pizzafamily.jpg

Family Pizza is your basic 2 for 1-style pizza joint that has become super popular across Saskatchewan. Their pizza is cost-efficient, delivery times are consistently quick and they stay open late to satisfy the hunger of night crawlers and people getting home from the bars. Plus, the employees seem genuinely happy to work there. It's the type of home grown pizza joint you feel good supporting and want to see succeed.

They have lots of different styles of pizza; but one of their inventions stands tall above the rest.
The Chicken Bacon Ranch was introduced to the menu in May of 2006. It was a creation of Family Pizza's franchise founder Hal Schmidt. It is a simple pizza made with fresh, store-made pizza dough, creamy ranch sauce chicken, bacon, diced tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. The pizza has been a family favorite for many years and continues to be a best seller in Moose Jaw. New staff hired quickly learn how to make the #36 as it is ordered so often.

Canadian Brewhouse - Doritos Pizza

Doritos on Pizza sounds strange; but let's face it, it doesn't sound bad at all. It's a wonder it took so long for it to catch on. Because it sure is delicious.

It's Jalapeño cheese and pizza sauce mixed with taco beef and shredded cheeses, topped with crisp lettuce and crushed Doritos chips.

It's so freaking good some foodie even wrote a blog about being so inspired by it they created their own home recipe.

And stay cool, if you don't like the Dorito's on pizza thing the Brewhouse has a few other inventive pizza's as well that you might prefer. The menu features Chicken Alfredo Pizza, a Donair Pizza and a Perogie one too.

The Crushed Can

The Crushed Can has a pub grub menu that is seriously underrated. Great burgers, steaks, sandwiches and lots of great appetizers. But one thing they do exceptionally well is pizza. This was something many local pizza lovers made very clear.

Next time you're looking for a place to catch a game and have a bite to eat. Why not try pizza and The Crushed Can?
