Krav Maga Comes to Moose Jaw
Nick Murray
If you've ever wanted to rip the still-beating heart out of another man's chest or gouge somebodies eyeballs out with your fingers, Moose Jaw might just have the place for you.
Lightning Strike Self-Defence is hosting an open house at 11:15 am, on Saturday, Feb. 3. at, and in partnership with, Control Jiu-Jitsu (1610 Stadacona W.)
"Krav Maga is a self-defence system created through war and conflict to protect people. It was adopted by the IDF (Israel Defence Force)" said Seylor Giroux, who will be teaching the class and presenting at the Open House.
Jason Church, Instructor and Brown Belt at Control Jiu-Jitsu calls it "an amalgamation of many different martial arts with the main goal of putting distance between yourself and your attacker"
Donald Booth, another instructor at Control Jiu-Jitsu seems excited about the addition of Krav Maga. "It's a completely different dynamic to have a knife shoved into your ribs or your throat" he said, adding, "since Seylor is also a student of Jiu-Jitsu, he is able to provide examples and references to both as he teaches his class. There's a ton of crossover between the two."
Seylor is an experienced Krav Maga instructor. He currently teaches a class in Assiniboia and has helped run seminars in Ottawa and Edmonton
"Seylor understands Krav Maga as his first language" Coach Jason Church said, adding "but is able to bridge his knowledge of Jiu-Jitsu to make himself a complete Martial artist. We see Seylor's potential and expertise and love having him in our crew. We are super impressed."
Dubbed as "the Art of Stayin' Alive", Krav Maga is a deadly martial art that focuses protecting self and family. It teaches you to keep things simple and neutralize any threats with constant aggression, both offensively and defensively. It teaches how to attack pressure points and soft tissues, to quickly protect oneself. Attacks to the eyes, groin and throat are NOT off-limits in Krav Maga. It teaches the fundamentals of stand-up fighting and how to both attack using weapons and defend yourself from weapon attacks.
Check it out on Saturday the 3rd at Control Jiu-Jitsu
