Police Chief Bourassa Officially Retied

In September 2024, Moose Jaw Police Service Chief, Rick Bourassa announced his plans to retire In 2025.

Chief Bourassa has now identified February 1, 2025, as his official retirement date from the Moose Jaw Police Service.

Bourassa was hired as the Moose Jaw Police Service Chief on October 4, 2013, after a 31-year career with the Regina Police Service, and a short stint with the Government of Saskatchewan.

“It is with mixed emotions that I decide to retire,” says Chief Bourassa.

“I have been grateful to have been in policing for so many years, worked with so many exceptional people, and welcomed by the amazing community of Moose Jaw. After a lengthy career, it is time to move into the next chapter of life and whatever that may hold. Thank you.”

Moose Jaw Mayor and Chair of the Moose Jaw Board of Police Commissioners, James Murdock commented on Chief Bourassa’s retirement.

“On behalf of the entire city and the Board of Police Commissioners, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to Chief Bourassa, ” said James Murdock, Mayor of Moose Jaw and Chair of the Board.

“His unwavering commitment, leadership, and integrity have been the cornerstone of our community’s safety and well-being for many years. His efforts have not only protected our residents and visitors but also fostered a sense of trust and respect between the police force and the community. Chief Bourassa’s legacy of service and dedication will be remembered.”

At a later date, the Moose Jaw Board of Police Commissioners will announce their plans to hire another Chief of Police.

For the interim, Deputy Chief, Rick Johns will serve as the Acting Chief of Police until the search for a new Chief is completed.
