City Investigating Video Shot In Pool’s Change Room\Shower Area

The issue of where a person is allowed and not allowed to shoot photographs and video at the Kinsmen indoor pool has come again.

This time it has to do with a promotional Facebook live video shot in the pool shower area in the men’s locker room.

The video, obtained by MJ Independent and still on-line, shows two men promoting a healthy lifestyle.

The video briefly shows a man wearing swim trunks showering in the background. The man has his back turned to the camera and apparently oblivious he is shown in the video.

Additionally the video shows lockers in the change room in the background and toilets flushing can be heard.

There is NO INDICATION the phone used to make the video is hidden but there is the possibility anyone pictured in it may not realize filming was going on.

According to the person who raised concerns with this publication she fears straying from the posted policy of no photographs in the washroom, change rooms and enclosed showering areas will spill into the female locker areas as a result.

She fears that others who may have other motives will do the same thing and the rules should apply to everyone irregardless of what they’re promoting.

The individual who raised the concerns said they have no opposition to the message given out just where it was filmed.

The entryway to the change rooms area distinctly states videotaping and photography is strictly forbidden.

In a written response the City confirmed that video taping and photography is strictly forbidden in the change room and washroom areas.

“Our policy related to cameras in change rooms reads as follows “All photo, camera, video, and video communication applications on personal devices are prohibited in the change rooms”. There is also signage throughout the facility to indicate this,” the City wrote.

The City also wrote the incident is under investigation.

“We take all contraventions of the policy very seriously. Staff are currently investigating the matter and appropriate measures will be taken once the investigation concludes.”

Many change rooms in other public facilities have a strict no cellphone use policy to prevent surreptitious filming. The University of Regina is one institution that has this policy.

Editor’s Note - MJ Independent has decided not to publish the names of the pool patron raising the concerns and as such to be fair we will not be publishing the name of the person taking the video.
