Brownlee Bail Breaker Gets 15 Years Total Time

A man, who was released on bail to await sentencing for North Battleford Provincial Court matters to Brownlee, and subsequently went on the lam and committed new offences is looking at a 15 year jail sentence.

The sentence will consist of the eight years he was given for his Saskatchewan charges and seven years for his Alberta charges while on the run.

Under a December 2021 bail agreement - ordered by Moose Jaw Provincial Court - Kurt Elliott Miller from the RM of Glenside was suppose to be inside a Brownlee friend’s home 24 hours a day except for Christmas Day.

Miller had already plead guilty to possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a prohibited weapon (a saw off shotgun) and conspiracy to traffic narcotics.

He had been expected to have been sentenced on January 25, 2022 but went on the run where he committed more drug and weapons crimes.

Miller would run to Alberta where he was arrested by the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Warrant and Enforcement Team with help from Alberta police agencies.

The Saskatchewan searches of a vehicle he was in and subsequently his rural home turned up a treasure trove of illegal weapons.

While on the run from the law in Alberta Miller would be charged and convicted of further drug trafficking charges.

He received seven years for those charges.

When the news was released about the bail conditions Miller has received, after pleading guilty to serious drugs and weapon offences, there was outrage in local social media and concerns raised by Brownlee area residents about Miller being released in the community.

Miller had no family living in Brownlee but was to stay inside a friend’s home while on bail.

Most people said Miller would likely skip out on his bail and had no connection to the hamlet.
