Sask Polytech To Close Moose Jaw Print Shop - Layoff Eight System Wide
By Robert Thomas
If you’re an employee of Saskatchewan Polytechnic there is a lot of anxiety as the provincial post secondary education institution is set to close two of the print shop and layoff a total of eight (full time and part time) employees system wide.
The layoffs are part of an email memo sent out to employees by Sask Poly and obtained by MJ Independent.
The eight layoff systemwide - equivalent to 7.25 full time positions - will also include the closure of print shops located in Moose Jaw and Prince Albert campus locations.
Print shop services in both Moose Jaw and Prince Albert will be closed effective July 1, 2023.
Print shop services for those two colleges will see internal work done by Prince Albert, move to Saskatoon and the internal work done by Moose Jaw moved to Regina.
Work done for external printing clients will no longer be done in Moose Jaw.

Contents of the memo sent to employees were confirmed by Saskatchewan Polytechnical in an email statement as part of a media request by MJ Independent.
Our request was based upon the uncertainty more than one Sask Poly employee s expressed worrying about their jobs.
Saskatchewan Polytechnical Statement
The statement in full is as follows:
Saskatchewan Polytechnic regularly conducts an operational review to ensure program alignment with current market demand, operating efficiencies and budget accountability.
As part of this annual review, 8 full-time and part-time academic and professional services employees across all campus locations received layoff notices.
These changes represent a reduction of 7.25 FTEs, which is less than one per cent of Sask Polytech’s workforce. It is critical that we remain focused on the future and on our mission to inspire success in every learning journey.
Out of respect for employees, we do not share positions, departments or programs impacted.
As of July 1, 2023, Print Services will no longer be offered at Prince Albert and Moose Jaw campuses. Printing needs on those campuses will be serviced out of Saskatoon and Regina campuses.
