Junior Basketball Playoffs Format Set

With the regular season now completed the playoff lineups and game times have been announced for high school junior basketball.
Now that the playoffs have arrived the time for free basketball is over as there is now a gate admission.
Cost to attend is $5 for adults, $3 for high school students and elementary school students are FREE.
Here is a breakdown of the playoff game lineups.
Junior Girls
Vanier versus Central February 28th at 6:20 pm at Central Collegiate
On February 28th the third place Vanier Spirits junior girls will travel to Central Collegiate to take on the second place Cyclones.
The Spirits ended their regular season with a 4 wins and 5 losses record.
The Cyclones ended their regular season with a 5 wins and 4 losses record.
In regular season play the Cyclones won both matchups against the Spirits.
The Cyclones defeated the Spirits 46 - 32 in both teams’ season opener.
In the second game the Cyclones came from behind in the last two minutes of play and won 44 - 42 on a long basket with 6.4 seconds left to play.
It is not a foregone conclusion on which team will advance to the city championship final.

The winner of the game will face the 5 wins and 4 losses Peacock Toilers on March 8th at Peacock for the junior girls basketball championship.
Although the Toilers and Cyclones have identical regular season records of 5 wins and 4 losses the Peacock team received the bye into the final by virtue of their record against Central in regular season play between the two teams.
The Toilers and Cyclones split their two season matchups with both teams winning as visitors against the other.
On Dec 13 Central defeated Peacock 40 - 30.
In their second matchup Peacock defeated Central 45 - 31.
Both matchups were covered by MJ Independent.
The scoring in their two regular season matchups was 75 points for Peacock and 71 points for Central earning the Toilers the bye to the junior girls final.
Junior Boys
Central Red versus Vanier Red February 28th at 8 pm at Central Collegiate.
The junior boys basketball playoffs kick off February 28th in an 8 pm semi-final game when powerhouse Central Red (8 wins - 0 losses) faces Vanier Red (2 wins - 6 losses).
In their two meetings this season Central Red has dominated in the games against Vanier Red winning 101 - 40 and 91 - 40.
The winner faces the winner of the March 1st matchup between Peacock and Central Gold for the junior boys city championship on March 8th.
Peacock versus Central Gold March 1st at 7:30 pm at Peacock Collegiate.
In the other semi-final game Peacock will face Central Gold in a March 1st matchup. Tip off at 7:30 pm at Peacock Collegiate.

The Toilers are in the semi-finals with a regular season record of 5 wins and 3 losses
The Cyclones’ Gold team have an identical regular season record of 5 wins and 3 losses.
The regular season matchup saw the teams splitting wins.
The Toilers won 87 - 49 on December 12th and Central Gold won 64 - 56 on January 18th.
The scoring in their two regular season matchups was 143 points for Peacock and 113 points for Central Red earning the Toilers the semi-final home game.
The winner faces the winner of the February 28th matchup between Central Red and Vanier Red for the junior boys city championship on March 8th.
JV Boys
Over in the JV Boys division both semi-final games are on March 1st.
Although there are seven teams in the JV Boys division only four teams are eligible for post season play.
The three new JV teams this season - Central, Lumsden and Notre Dame - are exhibition play only and not eligible for post season play.
Assiniboia versus Peacock March 1st at 5:50 pm at Peacock Collegiate.
The 8 wins and 1 loss Assiniboia Rockets face the 0 wins and 9 losses Peacock Toilers in semi-final play.
Assiniboia won both matchups this season defeating Peacock 59 - 36 and 73 - 54.
The winner goes on to face the winner of the Caronport versus the South Hill Royal Falcons - a team made up of players from Cornerstone Christian School and Riverview Collegiate - on March 8th for the city championship.
Caronport versus CCS\Riverview March 1st at 6:20 at Riverview Collegiate
The high flying second place CCS\Riverview combined team, better known as the South Hill Royal Falcons, face the third place and sportsmanship leading Caronport Cougars.
ACTION FROM THE DECEMBER 12TH MATCHUP BETWEEN THE ROYAL FALCONS AND COUGARS - MJ INDEPENDENT FILE PHOTO
The Royal Falcons finished the regular season with a 5 wins and 4 losses record versuses the Cougars with a 3 wins and 6 losses regular season record.
In their December 12th matchup the Royal Falcons came from behind with a field goal rally to defeat the Cougars 65 - 51.
In the rematch out at Caronport the Royal Falcons squeaked by with a 55 - 53 victory.
The winner goes on to face the winner of the Assiniboia versus Peacock semi-final on March 8th for the city championship.
