Funds Found In MJPS Own Account To Reduce Budget Request
With the Moose Jaw Police Service (MJPS) asking for a 10.26 percent increase ($1.2 million) the budget was sent back by Council for budget reconsideration.
The MJPS was set to enable the implementation of computer assisted dispatch and in-car reporting.
After a look at their accounts by the director of financial services for the City of Moose Jaw, Brian Acker, was able to identify $455,000 in funding available in the major equipment control account.
On Thursday morning the Moose Jaw Board of Police Commissioners voted to pay for the new computer systems from the major equipment control account and remove it from the 2024 budget request.

The intent of the excess funds that accumulate in this account are for them to be used as the initial source of funding for new equipment that has no replacement funding.
Presently there are $450,514 unencumbered in the major equipment account.
The use of the fund reduces what the Board of Police Commissioners are requesting to $736,355.00 or a 6.40 percent increase.
