Police Warn About New Fentanyl
The Moose Jaw Police Service (MJPS) has issued a Public Service Announcement about a new type of fentanyl potentially on the streets of Moose Jaw that is Naloxone resistant.

The Moose Jaw Police has received infomation regarding a new strain of fentanyl that is resistant to naloxone and is circulating in southen Saskatchewan - paticularly in the Moose Jaw and Swift Curent areas.
The Saskatchewan RCMP has confimed they have responded to multiple overdoses and deaths in recent months.
As of December 13, 2023, the MJPS can confim that this new strain of fentanyl hasn’t been reported within the City of Moose Jaw.
According to the RCMP, this fentanyl does not look different than other circulating strains - but may be resistant to naloxone.
Naloxone is a fast-acting dug used to temporaily reverse the effects of the overdoses caused by opioids.
If you or someone you know uses fentanyl, here is what you need to know:
Anyone could be at isk of an overdose and don't use alone.
Learn the signs of an opioid overdose - difficulty walking, talking, or staying awake; blue lips or nails, pinpoint pupils, cold and clammy skin, dizziness or confusion; extreme drowsiness; choking, gurgling or snoring sounds; slow or weak breathing; inability to wake up even when shaken or shouted at.
Know the Good Samaritan Act will protect anyone experiencing a drug overdose from charges, a possession of a controlled substance.
Use Naloxone Though naloxone-resistant fentanyl is circulating, naloxone is still recommended that it be administered to someone expeiencing an overdose. Lean more about a take-home Naloxone kit HERE.
