If It Ain’t One Thing It’s Another

It’s been a tale of two stories for the 2023-2024 Moose Jaw Warriors.
They’ve shown they can absolutely manhandle the best team’s in the league, thrashing the Prince George Cougars, at the end of October, as well as get manhandled by the worst team’s (look to Friday night’s ugly loss to Edmonton).
They were at the Saddledome, in Calgary, on Sunday evening, to face off against the Hitmen, another team struggling to find wins.
Another team which this Moose Jaw Warriors club should be able to beat. But if it Ain’t One Thing It’s Another.
Which Moose Jaw Warriors would we get? The manhandlers or the manhandled?
It didn’t start out great.
Once again, the Warriors struggled mightily to get shots on the opposition goalie in the opening period.
They only hit the net seven times.
Calgary was a little better in that regard.
Landing 14 shots and beating Jackson Unger on one of them.
The Hitmen went into the changeroom with a 1-0 lead after the first period.

In Period Two the tribe was even worse.
Thankfully Jackson Unger was tremendous between the pipes, saving 34 Hitmen shots and keeping the Warriors in a game they had no business being competitive in.
After two frames, the Warriors had been out-shot 39 to 15 but simply thanks to the remarkable play of Jackson Unger they entered Period Three trailing by just a single goal, with still a chance to wrangle a victory out of the match.
If you thought that was the ammunition needed to turn the tides you were wrong.
The Warriors weren’t any better in the third period than they’d been in the previous two.
Carson Wetsch put the Hitmen up 2-0 halfway through the third.
Denton Mateychuk scored a Power Play goal real late in the game but that was far too little and far too late.
Hitmen 2-1 Warriors
Moose Jaw has got to be glad that weekend is over.
Is it time to be concerned?
