Swifties Too Swift

A bunch of Swifties rolled into the Notorious City for a good old fashioned game of hockey at the Moose Jaw Events Centre and your hometown Warriors were looking to give them a good beat down.

The problem with these particular Swifties, the Swift Current Broncos, is that they’re a pretty solid hockey team.

The opening frame came complete with a barrage of goals, five of them, to be exact.

It was just unfortunate that three of those five were scored by Swift Current and just two by the Warriors; meaning the bad guys escaped the first period with a small, 3-2 lead.

Martin Rysavy scored first, netting a laser-pass from Lynden Lakovic.

But the Swifties scored three straight after that, all in a matter of five minutes.

The Broncos goals were from Brady Birnie, Josh Filmon and Clarke Caswell.

In the final minute of the period, Atley Calvert notched his 11th of the season, bringing the game that little bit closer.

The Warriors levelled out the score on an early Power Play in the third period when Atley Calvert scored a second, deflecting a Brayden Yager zinger.

Plain and simple though, the Moose Jaw Warriors just aren’t very good at keeping goals out of their net and they allowed two more, in short succession, and exited the second period trailing by two.

It was beginning to look a lot like “same old, same old” for the Warriors.

What often happens is even though a team might be pretty effective at scoring goals, if they can’t prevent goals at the other end, they regularly find themselves in positions where they have to fight from behind against teams they should probably be beating.

Such was the story with the Warriors on this ill-fated evening, as they just weren’t able to turn the tide.

The Broncos added an empty netter to cap off a 6-3 victory.

The Moose Jaw Warriors just aren’t that great of a team and there record shows that.

They’re now at 13 wins and 10 losses and sitting in third place in the East Division.

That’s not entirely terrible but it’s definitely not becoming of a team many have logged to be serious contenders for a Memorial Cup.

However, it seems that with the recent trading of Matthew Gallant that they made be in the process of some more acquisitions.

The Team will be in Prince Albert tomorrow night and we can only pray for a better result.
