It was a case of not enough solid opportunities but rather one of missing by inches as the Peacock Toilers defeated the Vanier Vikings 56 to 43 in high school junior boys action on Monday evening.
Powered by Kaison Skeoch's 17 points the Toilers were able to hold the lead throughout the game.
The other two top point getters for Peacock were Raten Johnson with 11 points and Owen Varjassy with eight (8) points.
The top three scorers for the Vikings were Ceve P with 16 points, Walker S with six (6) points and Prince A and Carson G each with five points.
The First Quarter score was Peacock 23 and Vanier 12.
Half-time Peacock Peacock 38 and Vanier 28.
The third quarter score was Peacock 44 and Vanier 32.
“I thought we absolutely got destroyed on the boards and that is what cost us a lot of points,” Toilers coach Karen Ridgen said.
I think both teams had a lot of layup opportunities that we didn't convert on. And honestly we didn't box out well where they got second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth chances,” she said.
“Lack of focus on the finish. When we're two feet from the basket.”
She said for the Toilers next effort she was looking for the team playing good defence and the fundamentals of basketball.
“Then other things take care of themselves,” she said.
“Honestly I think we had turkey legs,” Vanier Vikings head coach Mark Bevan said.
“We've only had a couple practices. We practiced with the seniors the whole Christmas break and I don't know if it helped our boys,” Bevan said.
“They looked slow tonight.”
Bevan said he didn't know exactly what was going on as the team only made one three pointer all game and normally they are good at making the long shots.
