Spring Equine Events Riding Into Exhibition Grounds

For horse fanciers or those interested there is a myriad of FREE events happening at the Moose Jaw Exhibition Grounds (250 Thatcher Drive East) over the next few months.

This Saturday the events start with barrel racing this Saturday with a kickoff time about noon. For anyone attending please remember to dress warmly as the Golden Mile Arena is heated but the temperature is kept lower so horses do not sweat and need to be blanketed afterwards.

At this past Tuesday evening's monthly members meeting of the Moose Jaw Exhibition Association general George Fowler said spring bookings looked strong.

There had to be one event cancelation due to the weather.

The Hunter/Jumper show originally scheduled for April 14-17 had to be rescheduled due to the blizzard and poor road conditions especially in the south-eastern areas of the province.

Since many competitors would be unable to participate - a large number travel from the southeast - the decision was made to reschedule the show.

The show will now take place August 25 - 28.

  • Cowboy Dressage May 13 - 15

  • Saskatchewan Quarter Horse May 20 - 23

  • Ranch Roping May 21 - 22

  • Regina District Dressage June 3 - 5

Lee Bellows told the meeting the rodeo school usually accepts only 25 participants but this year will have 27 because an Australian is participating and so space was made.

Youth rodeo school is where aspiring and young rodeo sports participants get their first real taste of the sport.
