Convicted Drug Dealer Given Christmas 2021 Break In Brownlee Facing More Major Drug Charges

A Biggar area man, who temporarily moved in with a friend in Brownlee, while waiting to be sentenced after pleading guilty to serious drug and weapons charges is now facing more serious drug charges.

Arrested in Edmonton on November 3, 2022 Kurt Miller was subsequently charged with the following charges:

  • Trafficking 5(1) CDSA;

  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking 5(2) CDSA; and

  • Possession of equipment for use in production of substance 7.1(1) CDSA

Miller's association with Brownlee came as part of a Christmas season reprieve in Moose Jaw Provincial Court.

He is now being identified by the RCMP as a Brownlee resident.

Appearing by video in December 2021 from the Regina Correctional Centre, where he was held at the time on remand, Miller asked the Court for the Christmas break until he appeared for sentencing in North Battleford Provincial Court.

At the time Miller indicated his only connection to the community of Brownlee was that he had a friend there willing to take him in.

After being granted the Christmas season act of kindness Kurt Miller - which included his remaining 24 hours in his friend's house except for being allowed for religious services on Christmas Day - became a major Grinch and fled and allegedly became involved in fentanyl dealing.

"In this investigation, we seized over 10 kg of fentanyl which had the potential of reaching communities across Saskatchewan and Alberta. Approximately 2 mg of this substance is considered a lethal dose depending on a person's body size, tolerance and past usage. Our communities are safer because of this drug seizure and the dismantlement of this trafficking operation," Superintendent Glenn Church, officer in charge of the Saskatchewan RCMP's new Saskatchewan Enforcement Response Team (SERT) said in a statement.

When granted the Christmas break residents of Brownlee and others expressed concerns and outrage Miller was allowed to spend the Christmas season in the community because of the serious drug and weapons charges he plead guilty to.

Many said there was “no chance” Miller would show up in court and likely to re-offend plus he was a major danger to the hamlet.

When captured in Edmonton Miller was allegedly seen exiting a trailer and placing plastic bags in the vehicle's trunk. A subsequent search allegedly found the drugs.

Miller was in the back seat of the vehicle.

He has been returned to Saskatchewan and will appear in court in Saskatoon on December 9th.
