Environment Canada Issues A Christmas Eve Special Weather Alert For Moose Jaw And Area

For those of you planning to be on the road for Christmas this year Environment Canada has issued a weather alert that is downright Scrooge like.

Environment Canada has issued a Weather Alert for the entire Moose Jaw region as an Alberta Clipper is predicted to roll across large parts of Saskatchewan.

For Moose Jaw the storm system is so far predicted to bring snowfall amounting up to five (5) cm overnight and the potential of freezing rain. Blowing snow and new snow having the potential to reduce visibility.

The temperature is expected to rise to -6C by Christmas morning making freezing rain in Moose Jaw a possibility.

Snow is predicted to be 5 - 10 cm on Sunday Christmas Day with blowing snow and new snow having the potential to reduce visibility.

  • R.M. of Maple Bush including Riverhurst and Douglas Prov. Park

  • R.M. of Marquis including Tuxford Keeler and Buffalo Pound

  • R.M. of Moose Jaw including Pasqua and Bushell Park

  • R.M. of Pense including Pense Belle Plaine and Stony Beach

An Alberta Clipper will move into Saskatchewan tonight bringing a swath of mixed precipitation and strong winds to the southwest corner of the province.

Ice pellets will be the primary hazard with this system, with a risk of freezing rain as well, beginning this evening and transitioning into light snow by Sunday morning.

Along with the mixed precipitation, southerly winds on tonight will shift to strong northwesterly by Sunday morning. There could be some gusts up to 70-80 km/h. There may even be a gust to 90 km/h over the Cypress Hills late in the morning.

Falling snow combined the strong winds may result in blowing snow tonight and Sunday before the system exits the region by Sunday evening.
